Blockchainland: Where your dreams can become ICOs

It’s early morning in Blockchainland!

The sun is shining and birds are singing, soon awaking the whole city.
“We should have done our ICO” says an old guy turned into a crypto supporter“ I told you”!

The reason?

EVERYONE IN BLOCKCHAINLAND IS DOING AN ICO!

From the singer to the farmer, from the football player to the pope, everyone.

People who do not know absolutely anything about anything are afraid to miss the Blockchain train and for this reason are doing an ICO where you can buy train tickets.

I can’t cease to be amazed by how many people are doing insane ICOs, Blockchainland is a place where you need to hide, or people will ask to become their advisor, to read their whitepaper or to PARTICIPATE IN THE PRE-SALE. Only the worthy are given such benefit.

It is outstanding the amount of projects around, with the most different scopes — if any — token model, consensus and so on and so forth..
What really stikes me thought, is that it really seems that there is room for everyone in Blockchainland. Just do your ICO, and money will rain.
Some old guy finally sold its stocks of a company producing oil lamps and it’s ready to dive into the future of the future: blockchain.

Can we blame them? Not really, but this contributes — whether directly or indirectly it is debatable — to the pollution of the sector and to a sort of uncultivated field where saffron and weeds grow alike. I call for the highest laws of nature and the free market to have an effect as soon as possible and to save us, to bestow upon us a Darwinian natural selection leaving out all but the worthy projects, those who really add value.

Blockchain is such a complicated and difficult technology at the moment; Why would we want to complicate our lives? Using a blockchain is most likely not necessary, unless your business depends on untrustable third parties who happen to have different interests than yours and you also have to coordinate a set of other actors that need to share information between them. Than, you might wanna weight the possibility of adopting a blockchain. But only as a last resort.

..And even if you eventually decide to adopt blockchain technology, why the hell would you do an ICO? There’s plenty of lovely projects around, just develop your app and use existing tokens, please!!!!

I do not wanna hear about your incentive mechanisms and how your token is amazing and different, we all know it is. But the said reality is that nobody cares about your token, unless you’re a top 50 coin. Most likely 99% of the projects will fail because of the lack of a community, an use case and the unnecessary complications introduced by blockchain.

Blockchainland is now a happy place, plenty of FOMO. People from all over the world come here to learn and replicate, to adapt and adopt. Everything wants to be a citizen, to show off with his friends. He knows about CRYPTO, he has 0.000001 BTC, he’s an INVESTOR.

Wow, in Blockchainland dreams really come true!

There seem to be a clash though, between the values preached by the community and what really happens out there. We are in front of the biggest episode of overestimation in the history of humanity, where this sector is living a gold rush in which pyrites are sold for gold.

Good, the sector is growing and we are seeing the first signs of adoption — now you can masturbate and pay with a flawed, claiming-to-be-private-but-not cryptocurrency — but is this the direction we want to go?

Do we want to have blockchain events that look like circuses? Do we want experts that are no experts and still act as such? Where people doing ICOs are doing terrible pitches and where their reply to the usual spicy question of “why do you really need a blockchain?” is: “because we do, otherwise I wouldn’t be here”? Do we want an overtokenized world where everything is ICOed?

I would like to pose these questions to you, to push you to imagine what would be your ideal version of the blockchain sector or, if you feel inspired, of the blockchain world. Feel free to post them in the comment section, I am looking forward to read them.
